Naturally Formulated
We got answers. We love sharing our knowledge on cannabis topicals and why they can be an effective addition to your self-care. Our Jointment Massage Butter contains beta-caryophyllene, which is similar to cannabinoids when interacting with CB2 receptors and contains ethosome for absorption efficiencies.
Jointment is made of botanical constituents like essential oils, chosen specifically for their terpene content (linalool, pinene, myrcene, and humulene) in combination with arnica oil, which research shows has anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties.

Why should I use a topical?
First, to set your mind at ease, topicals do not cause intoxication. Although they bind with your body’s cannabinoid receptors, applying them to the skin doesn’t result in absorption into the bloodstream. Topicals provide cannabinoid benefits for your skin, muscles, and surrounding tissue.
Cannabis has been used for centuries to help with pain and inflammation, and extensive literature supports a role for both endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids for pain relief. What topicals offer that other products don’t is targeted, site-specific relief from inflammation, nerve pain, arthritis, muscle cramps, and even migraines.
However, we are not medical doctors and cannot tell you if our products are for you. Please discuss with your medical professional or cannabis healthcare provider.
Why should I buy high THC or a balanced blend rather than CBD alone?
Cannabis has long been used for pain and inflammation. Research shows that THC is a strong painkiller, particularly when combined with CBD and terpenes in a full-spectrum product.
Over the past decade, scientific findings have clearly demonstrated that a functional endocannabinoid system is present in almost all peripheral organ systems, including the skin (the body’s largest organ). CB1 and CB2 receptors have been found at various locations in the layers of the skin, in both sensory nerve terminal and/or inflammatory cells.
THC is the main cannabinoid of choice for Jointment because it has been shown to bind better to the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the skin. In addition, we choose full-spectrum extracts, as minor cannabinoids also prove to bind with Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) receptors present in various skin cells. TRP receptors are known to be involved with the inflammatory process.

What is beta-caryophyllene (BCP)?
The terpene Beta-Caryophyllene (BCP) is added to the formulation because it interacts with CB2 receptors similarly to how cannabinoids do. It also assists the cannabinoids with absorption efficiencies.
In addition, Beta-caryophyllene gives off a warm, spicy, black-pepper flavor and smell to cannabis buds. It’s often found in a variety of different spices and herbs like basil, rosemary, cinnamon, oregano, cloves, lavender, and black pepper. Surprisingly, this terpene can also be found in broccoli!
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are natural oils found in botanicals that are responsible for the taste and smell, enhancing many therapeutic benefits. Terpenes aren’t just a cannabis thing either — they are found in foods, spices, and other botanicals!
The range of essential oils in Jointment were chosen specifically for their terpene content. As an added bonus, they smell great together! Key terpenes found in the essential oils we use are: beta-caryophyllene, linalool, pinene, myrcene, and humulene.
Why do we add essential oils?
We don’t add just any old essential oil. They are carefully chosen with their terpene content in mind so they’ll work with THC and CBD to create the most synergistic effect.
Because jointment is made from scratch, we don’t just add cannabinoids to a commercial base, and we can carefully choose each ingredient. Rather than adding strong smelling essential oils to mask the cannabis aroma, the oils we choose enhance the botanical smell and don’t linger enough to cause watery eyes, which can be common with other products.
What do full-spectrum and entourage effect mean?
A full-spectrum product means that it contains all the beneficial compounds naturally found in marijuana plants, including CBD, THC, terpenes, and flavonoids. Did you know there are over 100 cannabinoids including THC and CBD? CBD alone is not considered full-spectrum.
When using a full-spectrum product like Joinment, you benefit from the “entourage effect,” meaning the therapeutic effects are stronger when combined with other cannabis compounds, including terpenes, flavonoids, and lesser-known cannabinoids.
What are minor cannabinoids?
Minor cannabinoids are part of the marijuana plant, but found in smaller amounts. They are usually isolated by specific breeding and processing. They are being studied for their use as multi-target therapeutic agents.

Jointment

Why should I buy Jointment rather than something else?
We carefully choose which ingredients are used in Joinment — it’s made completely from scratch. We consider each ingredient’s natural effectiveness in providing pain and inflammation relief. It is a full-spectrum product, meaning you benefit from the “entourage effect.” That is just a fancy way of saying the therapeutic effects are stronger when combined with other cannabis compounds.
Jointment is luxurious, effective, and never greasy, which makes it a pleasure to use and to gift to someone else. Seniors in particular like it and the Blunt Botanicals team has shared it with all of our parents! The light, botanical smell works for both day and night and it won’t cause questionable looks or watery eyes. Furthermore, Jointment is produced in small batches with regular testing so that you have a consistently reliable product every time.
Does Jointment work for everyone?
The short answer is no. Everybody — and their endocannabinoid system — is different. In our experience, most who try it find it effective, but the only way to know for sure is to try it out for yourself.
Why do we add arnica and eucalyptus oil?
Arnica’s use dates back to the 1500s. It is used topically for a wide range of conditions, including bruises, sprains, muscle aches, wound healing, superficial phlebitis, joint pain, inflammation from insect bites, and swelling from broken bones. More recent studies suggest it may also be helpful in the treatment of burns.
Eucalyptus oil is from the plant used by the Australian Aborigines and is used in many over-the-counter remedies for colds, inflammation, skin hydration, and pain. Did you know it also contains linalool, which we also use as a terpene? If Jointment has a slightly minty smell to you, this is why.

What are your botanical constituents?
Linalool, pinene, myrcene, and humulene are terpenes found in essential oils that act with the cannabis in Jointment to provide enhanced benefits. Although research on cannabis is limited, there has been considerably more research done on naturally occurring botanical constituents such as these.
Linalool: A citrusy aroma commonly found in lemons, juniper, rosemary, and peppermint. It aids the absorption of other terpenes through the skin and mucous membranes. Research shows that it provides anti-inflammatory properties. This is the earthy smell in Jointment.
Pinene: As the name suggests, this is a pine-y aroma commonly associated with marijuana plant trichomes; however, it’s also found in pine needles, rosemary, basil, parsley, and dill. Research shows it has anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.
Myrcene: A musky aroma that is found in hops, mangoes, bay trees, thyme, lemongrass, and basil. Myrcene has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Humulene: An earthy scent derived from c. verbenacea. You may be familiar with it from cannabis sativa. It also naturally occurs in hops, ginseng, and basil. Research is promising in its use for anti-inflammatory and analgesic applications.
Will I get high using Jointment?
No. Topicals don't penetrate the skin deeply enough to reach the bloodstream. Instead, the cannabinoids work at the site of application. You can apply them as often as you need without having to worry about mind-altering effects.

How To Use
Production & Use

How do I use the product, Jointment?
Unlike smoking, vaping, dabbing, or eating edibles, topicals should not be inhaled or ingested and they do not work like those products if ingested.
Use Jointment daily for a more comfortable life. It can be effective before and after sports or strenuous activity or for weekend warriors. It’s great on most body parts (excluding nose, eyes, mouth, or private areas) and especially wonderful on hands, feet, and neck. Try it before wearing heels or pinchy shoes. Using it for your massage or physio session (with your therapist’s okay, of course) is a whole different experience.
How much product should I use?
As Jointment is 100% butters and oils, a little goes a long way. The amount will vary, depending on what body part you are treating. As with all cannabis products, “start low and go slow” is good advice. Add more as you find your body needs it. Starting with a small amount will help ensure your skin is not irritated by any of the ingredients, as everyone is different!
How often should I use it?
This varies depending on how your body reacts. Most topicals, with or without cannabis, usually require re-application in 1-4 hours to retain maximum benefit.
Who can use it?
Our products are for anyone (provided they meet legal purchasing requirements in their province or territory). We have a loyal following of seniors, and market research shows that primarily women purchase topicals, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t right for many others. Cannabis topicals have only been in the legal market since 2019, and many people aren’t familiar with them, so we’ve created educational resources to learn more.
As with any new product, we recommend trying a small amount first to ensure there is no irritation. Although we haven’t heard of many issues — in fact, we often hear that it helps with irritation — that doesn’t mean it's right for you. It is always important to check with your medical professional or cannabis healthcare provider.
The normal disclaimers still apply: Keep out of reach of children. There is no research on the safety of using cannabis topicals while pregnant or breastfeeding, so we do not recommend that. As it doesn’t enter your bloodstream, it shouldn’t interfere with other medication, but again check with your doctor.
Many people of all genders and (legal) ages have tried topicals, using them daily or just as needed. Jointment makes a thoughtful gift to someone who may benefit. In our Blunt Botanicals family, they are used by family members ages 20-90!
I like Jointment, what else do you make?
We have heard that many of you want a more portable Jointment. We've heard you and are currently working on a liquid, roll-on Jointment-to-go option, making it super portable for travel or for use in those hot summer months. Just throw it in your purse, sports bag, or suitcase with no worry about melting.
We are also considering some of the other luxurious wellness products you've been asking for, so stay tuned by signing up for our newsletter (we promise we won't spam you) for more to come from Blunt Botanicals.
How do I store it?
As natural oils can melt above 25°C, we recommend storing it out of direct sunlight or heat. We are currently working on a liquid variation so you can throw it in any bag during warmer weather. However, if it does accidently melt, don’t worry! Simply pop it in the fridge to harden it back up. It will lose the light whip consistency but it won’t lose its efficacy. Always keep it out of reach of children.
Where can I find Jointment?
Jointment can be found in dispensaries across Alberta and select dispensaries in Saskatchewan. Look for us soon in BC, Ontario, Manitoba, and the Yukon. Please check our Retailers for specific location information.
Nothing close by? Ask your favourite dispensary to bring it in! Requesting that they stock it always helps a small business like ours. And don’t forget to tell your friends and family about it if you like it!
Can I buy it through my medical supplier?
Not yet, but ask your medical provider of choice to carry it!
